If you have never read Arabic before — or you learned a little as a child and forgot it — starting the Quran can feel overwhelming. The truth is simpler: online Quran classes for beginners are designed exactly for people starting from zero. With a patient one-on-one tutor, most beginners read their first Arabic words within weeks and their first page of Quran within months.

Who are beginner Quran classes for?

  • Children aged 4 and up who are starting their Islamic education.
  • Adults who never had the chance to learn, or who want to rebuild weak foundations.
  • Reverts taking their very first steps with the Arabic alphabet.
  • Parents who want to learn alongside their children.

There is no age limit and no embarrassment in starting late. Many of our students are adults and reverts — read our guide to learning Quran online for adults if that is you.

What do you actually learn as a beginner?

Stage 1: The Arabic alphabet (weeks 1–4)

You learn the 29 Arabic letters, their shapes, and their correct pronunciation from the mouth and throat (Makharij). Your tutor hears every sound you make and corrects it instantly — something no app or video can do.

Stage 2: Joining letters and vowels (months 2–4)

Using Noorani Qaida, you learn how letters connect, the short vowels (Harakat), Tanween, Sukoon and Shaddah. By the end of this stage you can read simple Arabic words and short Quranic phrases. See our Noorani Qaida beginner's guide for the full lesson breakdown.

Stage 3: Reading the Quran (months 4–8)

You move to the Mushaf and begin Quran reading (Nazra) — usually starting with the short surahs of Juz Amma. Your tutor introduces basic Tajweed rules as you read.

Stage 4: Fluency and Tajweed (ongoing)

From here you choose your path: fluent recitation with Tajweed, memorization (Hifz), or understanding through Tafseer and Arabic.

How do online beginner classes actually work?

  • You meet your tutor on a video call at a time that suits your time zone — mornings, evenings or weekends.
  • Classes are one-on-one, so every minute is spent on you, at your pace.
  • Your tutor shares the Qaida or Mushaf on screen; you read aloud and get instant, gentle correction.
  • Short practice between classes (10–15 minutes a day) locks in what you learned.

How to choose the right beginner class

  • One-on-one, not group: beginners need constant correction, which groups cannot give.
  • Certified teachers: look for Ijazah-holding tutors with experience teaching absolute beginners.
  • Male or female tutor choice: sisters and girls can learn with a female Quran teacher for full comfort.
  • A real trial: never commit before trying. We offer two free trial classes so you can judge the teaching yourself.
  • Transparent pricing: check our monthly plans — no contracts, cancel anytime.

How fast will I progress?

With 2–3 classes a week and short daily practice, most children finish Noorani Qaida in 3–6 months and adults in 2–4 months. From there, reading the Quran independently typically takes another few months. Consistency beats intensity — little and often always wins.

"The one who is proficient in the Quran will be with the noble scribes, and the one who recites with difficulty will have a double reward." — Sahih Muslim 798

Common beginner worries — answered honestly

"I'm too old." Adults learn faster than children at the beginner stage because they understand rules. "I'll be embarrassed." One-on-one classes mean nobody hears you except your supportive tutor. "I don't have time." Classes are 25 minutes and scheduled around your life. "I tried an app and gave up." Apps cannot hear your pronunciation — a teacher can.

Take your first step this week

Every reciter you admire once could not read a single letter. The only difference is that they started. Explore our courses, meet our certified tutors, or book your two free trial classes below — and read your first Arabic words this week.
